COLUMBIA, S.C. – Former Gamecock men’s soccer player Tyler Ruthven has signed a contract with the Harrisburg City Islanders of the USL-Second Division, it was announced on Friday by the organization.
Ruthven will be ready for the Islanders’ Friday game versus the Charleston Battery and Saturday’s contest against the Charlotte Eagles.
In his first season at South Carolina, Ruthven was named the Conference USA Newcomer of the Year, selected NSCAA All-South Region Third-Team and All-Conference USA Third-Team, and shared South Carolina’s team Strength and Conditioning Award. In 2008 he was named Second Team All-Conference USA and helped cement a defense that allowed the fewest goals at Carolina since 1998.
Ruthven collected First-Team All-Conference USA honors and was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-South Third Team after an outstanding year for the Gamecocks as a senior. Ruthven anchored the Carolina defense, while scoring one goal and collecting one assist on the year. He concluded his Carolina career with two goals and two assists.
