GENERAL NOTES

CONNECTICUT NOTES

  • Connecticut’s season comes to an end at 45-20-1.
  • The Huskies finished NCAA Tournament play with a 4-3 record, winning the Clemson regional and falling in both games in the Columbia Super Regional.
  • UConn was the fourth Big East team to play in a Super Regional. The Huskies are now 29-35 all-time in NCAA Tournament play.
  • Connecticut lost for just the eighth time on the road this year (22-8).
  • UConn fell to 2-10-1 when scoring two runs or fewer. The Huskies were outscored 13-3 in two games in the Columbia Super Regional.
  • This was just UConn’s fifth loss when leading after three innings. The Huskies went 27-5 in those contests.
  • The 7-8-9 hitters in the UConn lineup were a combined 6-for-11. The rest of the team was 4-for-24.
  • SS Nick Ahmed finished the season on a 10-game hitting streak after a 1-for-3 night.
  • 2B LJ Mazzilli saw a 10-game hitting streak come to an end as he went 0-for-5.
  • C Doug Elliot (2-for-4) had his 20th multi-hit game of the season.

SOUTH CAROLINA NOTES

  • South Carolina improves to 50-14 and advances to the College World Series for the second straight year and 10th time in school history.
  • The Gamecocks improve to 8-0 all-time at Carolina Stadium in NCAA Tournament games, and the program has won 19 consecutive postseason games at home, dating back to the 2002 Super Regional vs. Miami.
  • Carolina has won 11 NCAA Tournament games in a row (last six at the 2010 College World Series, 3-0 at the Columbia Regional and 2-0 this week). The Gamecocks are 16-1 in their last 17 postseason games.
  • Carolina finishes the season with a 36-4 home record (.900), the second-best home record under Ray Tanner (37-4 in 2000).
  • This will be the fifth College World Series appearance under Head Coach Ray Tanner.
  • Carolina turned three double plays in the game, matching a season high (four other occasions).
  • Six of the Gamecocks’ 12 hits in the game went for extra bases.
  • 1B Christian Walker hit a go-ahead solo home run to lead off the eighth inning. It was the second straight year for Walker to record the game-winning RBI in the eighth inning of Game 2 of the Super Regional; he hit a 3-run homer in the eighth inning against Coastal Carolina last year to give the Gamecocks a 10-9 victory.
  • Walker’s home run was his first since April 26, a span of 24 games. He also now leads the team with 60 RBIs
  • Coming into the Super Regional, Carolina had scored a total of eight ninth-inning runs all season. The team scored five tonight.
  • 2B Scott Wingo (2-for-5) reached base for the 18th straight game and hit safely for the fourth straight game. He also had his 22nd multi-hit game of the year.
