COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina cross country team announced its 2011 schedule which includes six regular season races, including the Gamecock Invitational that will be held Friday, Sept. 2 at 6 p.m.

The Gamecocks open the season traditionally with the Gamecock Invitational that is held at Hilton Field on Fort Jackson. The event features a men’s and women’s race, with the women running the 5K at 6 p.m.

Coach Stan Rosenthal’s team then travels upstate for a regular appearance at the Winthrop Invitational on Sept. 17 for a 10 a.m. 5K race. The team then competes at the 26th Roy Griak Invitational on Sept. 24 at the University of Minnesota for the second straight year, marking the first 6K race of the season. September closes out with the Charlotte Invitational held at McAlpine Park at 4 p.m. on the final day of the month.

The Gene Mullin Furman Invitational is scheduled for Oct. 8 at 9 a.m. before the team runs at the Indiana State Pre-National Invitational on Oct. 16. The race will take place in Terre Haute, Ind., site of the 2011 NCAA Championships.

The postseason begins with the SEC Championships on Monday, Oct. 31 at 11 a.m. The conference meet will be hosted by Tennessee and is a 6K race. The NCAA Southeast Regional begins at 10 a.m. on Nov. 12.
