COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina junior defender Kevin Stam recently took time out of his practice schedule to check in with GamecocksOnline.com about the upcoming season, what he did this summer and his favorite professional soccer team.

Q: What are you looking forward to most about this year?
A: Well we have a pretty young team, so we are all getting to the same point at the same time and it makes for a great bonding experience.

Q:What is your greatest soccer moment?
A: It has to be winning the Conference USA Tournament with the team

Q:Who was your biggest influence growing up?
A: My parents, they were the ones who pushed me to do well whether it was soccer or school

Q:Who is your favorite soccer player?
A: Fernando Gago

Q:What is your favorite professional soccer team?
A: Boca Juniors

Q:What is your long-term career goal off the field?
A: I want to be a conflict mediator

Q:If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?
A: It’s a tough call between Australia, New Zealand, and Patagonia

Q:What one word would you use to describe your style of play?
A: Calm

Q:What did you do over the summer?
A: I played on a PDL team in Greensboro and I worked an internship at a social work agency.

Q:What would be your Sportscenter dream highlight?
A: Definitely, Alex Long stopping a penalty kick to win the national championship.

Q:What is your biggest fear?
A: Not living up to my own expectations
