GREENVILLE, S.C. — The South Carolina cross country team ran in the 39th Gene Mullin Furman Invitational on Saturday morning and finished third on the course at the Furman Golf Course.
Gamecock head coach Stan Rosenthal entered his `B’ team in the event, and it scored 83 points to finish behind host Furman (23) and Virginia Military Institute (65).
The Gamecocks placed three runners in the top 20, as junior Emma Borowicz crossed to finish line in 13th place to pace the team with a time of 19:46. Senior Erin Fedewa placed 15th with a time of 19:52, while junior Jessica Hartman claimed 16th with a time of 19:55.
Junior Megan Rother (19:58) and freshmen Maggie Henderson (20:01) and Ginsie Britton (20:02) finished 21st, 22nd and 23rd, respectively, for South Carolina. Sophomore Rachel Grochowski turned in a time of 20:09 to finish 27th, followed by sophomore Liz Wilner (20:11, 28th), freshman Kelsey Rudeck (20:12, 29th), freshman Bryttin Boyde (20:24, 32nd), junior Ellyn Quigg (20:34, 35th) and freshman Kristina Cribb (20:50, 40th).
Anderson University’s Whitney Bishoff won the event with a time of 17:56.
The Gamecocks return to action on Sunday, Oct. 16 in the Indiana State Pre-National Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind., where the NCAA Championships will be held this year.
