COLUMBIA, S.C. – Three members of the South Carolina women’s soccer team were honored Monday with goalkeeper Sabrina D’Angelo being named the SEC Freshman of the Week, and defenders Ellen Fahey and Dani Henry being selected to the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week.

D’Angelo is the sixth Gamecock to earn the SEC Freshman of the Week honor, the last being Danielle Au who was selected on Sept. 13, 2010.

It is the fourth honor of the season for Fahey, who last week was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week in addition to being selected to the Soccer America National Team of the Week. Earlier this year she was named to the Our Game Magazine Team of the Week. It is the first career national honor for Henry.

Sabrina D’Angelo played 160 minutes of shutout soccer on the weekend to help push South Carolina into a tie for first at the top of the SEC table. On the weekend, D’Angelo recorded six saves, one solo shutout and 70 minutes in Sunday’s shutout at Ole Miss to lead South Carolina to the only two-shutout performance of the weekend in the SEC with every other goalkeeper ceding at least one goal. Through eight SEC games, D’Angelo leads the conference in goals against average (0.74) and save percentage (.850).

Fahey and Henry were the only defenders named to Top Drawer Soccer’s list, and they were the only representatives from the SEC. The duo were the only Gamecocks to play all 180 minutes in the weekend shutouts against Mississippi State (1-0) and Ole Miss (3-0), making South Carolina the only school in the conference to not allow a goal on the weekend. The leaders of the Gamecock backline helped limit the Mississippi schools to a combined six shots on goal on the weekend. In 16 halves of soccer in conference play this season, South Carolina has limited the opposition to two shots on goal or less in 10 of those halves

South Carolina travels this Thursday to take on the LSU Tigers in Baton Rouge. The Gamecocks and Tigers are tied for first place in the SEC overall standings with 18 points (6-2-0).
