COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina equestrian coach Boo Major has announced the signing of Savanna Southard (Moncks Corner, S.C./Berkeley) to a national letter of intent to join the Gamecocks for the 2012-2013 season. Southard will be competing with South Carolina’s Western team.

Southard trains with Kory and Angie Merrill, and has competed at a variety of levels. Among her many accomplishments, Southard has regularly placed in the top-5 in a variety of futurities across the country. Some of her other highlights include:

– SCQHA 5x Circuit Champion

2009-2010
– SCQHA 9x Circuit Champion
– SCQHA 4 year-end high-point awards

2008-2009
– Florida Gold Coast Circuit Champion
– AQHA World Show Qualifier

2007-2008
– SCQHA 8 year-end High Point awards
– AQHA Justin Rookie Award – AQHA Region 10 High Point All-Around
– SC State 4-H High Point Western Horse

A senior at Berkeley High School in Moncks Corner, Southard has been editor for the school’s newspaper, yearbook editor, cheerleader, and a 4-H member. She is also a member of the SCQHA and was treasurer of the SCQHYA. Southard plans to major in Education while at South Carolina.

Born in Charleston to parents Lee and Katie Southard, Southard is the oldest of three children (Bryson – 12, Casey – 10).
