COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina sophomore Jeannelle Scheper has been named the SEC Field Athlete of the Week after setting the school record in the high jump for the second time this season, the conference office announced Tuesday.

Scheper broke her school record in the high jump at the New Balance Collegiate in what was the final bar cleared by any competitor at 1.83m (6’0). Scheper’s mark puts her in a tie for fourth on the NCAA list this season and marks the second time this year that she has broken the school record after originally claiming it in the first week of the season at 5’11 ½ (1.82m). She is now one of seven women to ever clear 6’0 in the women’s high jump in the 11-year history of the New Balance Collegiate.

She is the first Gamecock to be honored by the SEC this year and the first Gamecock to earn SEC Field Athlete of the Week honors since she also earned the award as a freshman last year on March 22, 2011.

The Gamecocks will send split squads to Arkansas and Clemson next week as the teams participate in the Tyson Invitational and the Tiger Paw Invitational.
