On being the veteran in the infield and being a leader for the younger guys in the middle infield…
“(I tell them) just to keep your head up. Sometimes they’ll strike out at the plate or get out and you sometimes can see it in their face when they’re warming up or taking ground balls. I try to pull them aside before we take the field and tell them to forget about it because we need them for defense.”
RHP Matt Price
On feeling stronger on the mound as the season goes along…
“Last weekend against Clemson I threw about 100 pitches in four innings and threw about 100 today and got through six innings. I just want to keep having that quality outing to give our team in a chance to win and it’s been feeling better every week.”
Head Coach Ray Tanner
Opening Statement…
“Once again, the key for us to be successful is to do a good job on the mound and Matt Price gave us a quality start today. Runs were hard to come by early and then we capitalized on a mistake or two and got some hits. Pretty well played game on our part as far as double digit hits and didn’t commit an error. It was a good win for us.”
On Forrest Koumas’ performance coming back after the Clemson game…
“I thought he was pretty good, the big strikeout he had when he came in against the righty, that was the kind of the slider that made him pretty good last year. You get ahead in the count and then you throw a hard slider somewhere near the zone and as a hitter you end up chasing one out of the zone, that’s why he was effective and he made a good pitch there. I thought he looked pretty good, he was aggressive, and it seemed to me he put that game behind him and moved forward.”
