COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina freshman Chalese Davis earned the dual honors of SEC Female Runner of the Week and SEC Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.

Davis earned a trio of wins at the outdoor season opening Shamrock Invitational to get her outdoor season started on the right foot. Davis won the 100-meter hurdles at 13.89 – the fourth-best freshman mark in the country – and also earned an individual win in the long jump at 19’0 (5.79m) – the top freshman mark in the SEC. She then ran the third leg of the 4×400-meter relay team that set a meet record at 3:40.56 for Davis’s third win of the weekend, a time that ranks atop the SEC after one week.

Davis is the fourth Gamecock to be honored by the SEC this year, following the indoor season selections of Jeannelle Scheper (Female Field Athlete), Radiance Basden (Female Field Athlete) and Damiere Byrd (Male Freshman).

The Gamecocks will host the Weems Baskin Invitational this weekend with a slew of field events being contested on Friday before a full day of competition scheduled for Saturday.
