COLUMBIA, S.C. – Former South Carolina women’s golfer Amanda Strang defeated her first two opponents on Thursday to advance to the third round of match play at the Ladies’ British Open Amateur Championship at the Carnoustie Links in Scotland.
Strang won her opening-round match against rising Southern California junior Sophia Popov, 2 up. She then advanced to the round of 16 with a 2 up victory over Brittany Marchand, a rising junior at North Carolina State.
Gamecock sophomore Justine Dreher, who was one of 64 golfers to advance to match play, was unable to stay alive as she fell in the second round, 4 and 3, to Florida sophomore Camilla Hedberg. Dreher won her first round matchup, 3 and 2.
