KALAMAZOO, Mich. – South Carolina junior Chip Cox suffered his second loss at the USTA Boys 18 National Championships on Monday afternoon. Bowing out of the singles feed-in bracket, Cox will continue to play doubles at the event, returning to the court on Tuesday for round of 16 action.

In singles on Monday, Cox faced Gregory Garcia of Poway, Calif., in third-round qualifying in the feed-in bracket. The Myrtle Beach, S.C., native struggled early and dropped the first set 6-4. Cox battled Garcia throughout the second set, looking to extend his time in the bracket, but Garcia stole a late service break to win 7-5.

Cox and doubles partner Gordon Watson are back in action on Tuesday when the sixth-seeded team in the event will take on Nolan Paige and Aaron Revzin, who are seeded 12th.
