COLUMBIA, S.C. — Junior Michael Flach from the South Carolina men’s swimming team has been named the AgSouth Athlete of the Week.
Flach made a successful return to collegiate swimming as he recorded three individual wins on Saturday to lead the Gamecocks to a victory over Texas A&M and help the team score 132 points in a loss to North Carolina. Flach, who took a redshirt last season to train for the Olympics, won his first race of the meet, claiming first place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:38.56. He added to his big day with a win in his signature event, the 200-yard butterfly, with a mark of 1:48.69, which was more than a second faster than his nearest competitor. He wrapped up the meet with a victory in the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:50.95.
