COACH EPLEY ON BRIGIT FOLLAND & CAROLINE DAILEY
November 15, 2012

COLUMBIA, S.C. — First-year University of South Carolina women’s tennis head coach Kevin Epley announced the signing of Caroline Dailey and Brigit Folland to National Letters of Intent on Thursday. Dailey and Folland will join the Gamecocks for the 2013-14 academic year.

Folland has been ranked as high as No. 1 in the United Kingdom. She is regarded as a very quick counterpuncher with solid fundamentals across the board. Folland is a highly motivated, hardworking and accomplished student-athlete with excellent interpersonal and leadership skills who competes nationally and internationally. Among her many accolades are: Winter National Finals runner-up U-16 and U-18 (February 2011); Winter National Grand Prix winner U-16 (October 2010); ITF Junior International Nottingham semifinalist (April 2011); Bournemouth Women’s Open quarterfinalist (July 2011); TE Edinburgh Junior International runner-up (July 2009); British Junior National Finals U-14 semifinalist (August 2009); British Tour (Open) Exeter semifinalist (February 2012); British Tour (Open) Bath semifinalist (January 2012); British Tour (Open) Nottingham quarterfinalist (November 2011).

“Brigit has a lot of international competitive experience and is highly motivated both in the classroom and on the court,” Epley said. “She will make an immediate impact in the Gamecocks’ lineup.”

Caroline Dailey is another highly motivated player from Sarasota, Fla., and is coached by Mike Wilson. She won the wildcard into the WTA $25,000 in Osprey, Fla., in April 2011 and competed against top American pro Coco Vandeweghe in the first round. She also won the USTA US Open National Playoffs Florida Sectional Qualifying Tournament. Dailey has pro ambitions and has skewed her competition schedule more toward ITF tournaments rather than American events to get the most international exposure as possible.

“Caroline has been brave enough to take an untraditional route through the junior ranks, choosing to focus on development more so than ranking,” Epley said. “This mindset is very well aligned with the development program we are building here at South Carolina. She is a hard worker with serious academic and athletic ambitions. She will also make an immediate impact in the lineup.”
