COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina saw 10 of its softball student-athletes from the 2011-12 academic year earn National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Scholar-Athlete honors.

Of the 10 who earned placement on the list which included athletes from 140 Division I schools, six completed their eligibility last fall, including Sam Arbaugh, Molly Brossart, Kierstyn White, Kaela Jackson, Lauren Lackey and Kaitlin Westfall. Also garnering the accolades were Shelby Gonzales, Katelynn Howser, Hannah Milks and Julie Sarratt.

The student-athletes recognized posted grade point averages of 3.50 or better during the 2011-12 academic year and were submitted by their coaching staff. Earlier, the organization released that South Carolina ranked among the top-50 Division I team in GPA.

South Carolina opens the 2013 season in February on the road while the program’s new stadium rises on the same site the team has called home for the past 30 years. The full schedule will be released soon.
