The University of South Carolina football squad returned to the Bluff Road practice fields on Tuesday afternoon as they continued their spring workouts. The squad’s sixth of 15 spring practices came on another cool and windy day in Columbia.
Two-sport standout Bruce Ellington took part in the practice session for the first time this spring. Ellington, the team’s leading receiver a year ago, had been playing point guard for the Gamecock men’s basketball team over the last few months.
Several former Gamecocks and current NFL players were on hand for Tuesday’s practice, including Buffalo Bills cornerback Stephon Gilmore, and Chicago Bears wide receiver Alshon Jeffery. In addition, Spencer Lanning watched part of the practice. Lanning recently signed a free agent deal with the Cleveland Browns.
Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis was also on hand watching as the Gamecocks went through their drills. Lewis is in town as the Gamecocks will hold their annual Pro Timing Day on Wednesday morning.
The Gamecocks will practice again on Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m. All practices are open to the public.
