COLUMBIA, S.C. – Senior Kimberly McCormack from the Gamecock equestrian team has been named AgSouth Athlete of the Week, it was announced today. This is the second time McCormack has been named AgSouth Athlete of the Week this year and the third time she has won the award in her career.
McCormack, the lone senior in the Gamecocks’ hunt seat lineup over the weekend, helped lead South Carolina to win the inaugural SEC Championship.
McCormack, who became the first Gamecock equestian in team history to compete 100 times during a career, went 3-1 for Carolina over the weekend, including a perfect 2-for-2 day in Friday’s 10-7 win over No. 1 Georgia. McCormack edged her Bulldog opponent, 158-157 in Equitation Over Fences, and then won MVP honors in Equitation on the Flat as she completed her perfect afternoon with an event-high score of 153.
McCormack led the team in wins during the 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 seasons, and finished second in wins last year. She was previously named AgSouth Athlete of the Week on Oct. 1, 2012, after leading the Gamecocks to a 13-7 season opening win over No. 5 Oklahoma State. After the 2010-2011 season, she voted AgSouth Female Athlete of the Year at the University of South Carolina.
She is currently the team leader in career wins, regular season wins, postseason wins, MVP’s, and number of competition rides.
Later this month, Gamecock fans will vote for the male and female AgSouth Athletes of the the Year. All student-athletes that were named AgSouth Athletes of the Week will be on the ballot.
