COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina track and field program registered seven wins on Wednesday night in a midweek tune-up meet at the Weems Baskin Track. The Gamecock Open was the final home meet of the season for the Gamecocks.

Redshirt sophomore Walker Selby started off the day with a win in the men’s hammer throw. His toss of 157-02 (47.91m) bested the field for his first collegiate win. Selby also finished second in the discus throw with a mark of 135-04 (41.25m).

Picking up his first win of the season was redshirt junior Dorian Johnson. Johnson got the win in the men’s triple jump with a season-best 50-00 ¾ (15.26m).

Redshirt sophomore Kaysee Sullivan added a second discus win to her outdoor resume. Sullivan turned in a season-best toss of 147-04 (44.92m).

The Gamecocks swept the men’s and women’s 400-meter hurdles. Freshman Jonathan Russell ran a collegiate-best 53.43 for his first collegiate win. On the women’s side, junior Amber Allen led a 1-2 finish with sophomore Tamera Harris. Allen clocked in at 1:02.42 with Harris at 1:03.66.

South Carolina also went 1-2 in the women’s pole vault with sophomore Megan Wall leading the way. Wall cleared 11-11 ¾ (3.65m) for the win with redshirt freshman Ashley Cady recording a mark of 10-00 (3.05m).

In the men’s pole vault, freshman Jeffrey Linta set a new collegiate best with a clearance of 15-07 (4.75m) to take the top spot. It was also Linta’s first collegiate win.

Senior Ceci Kryst added a pair of second-place finishes and personal bests to her season list with a long jump mark of 19-01 ½ (5.83m) and a triple jump mark of 39-04.00 (11.99m). The long jump mark ties her personal best in the event while the triple jump mark is an outright personal record. Kryst’s triple jump mark betters her seventh-place entry in the Gamecock record books.

In the women’s 100-meter dash, freshman Ahtyana Johnson and senior Melekia Simpson finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Johnson ran a 12.08 while Simpson ran a season-best 12.21.

Sophomore Chris Walker placed second in the 200-meter run with a time of 21.74. Freshman Paris Smalls was right behind with a collegiate best of 22.42.
