COACH MANGUS POST-PRACTICE COMMENTS
April 5, 2013

The University of South Carolina football team worked out for about two hours on Friday afternoon at the Bluff Road practice fields. It was the squad’s final tuneup before returning to Williams-Brice Stadium on Saturday morning for its second scrimmage of the spring.

Running backs coach Everette Sands said he would get both Brandon Wilds and Mike Davis some reps early in the scrimmage, but wasn’t sure how many carries they would get. “We’ll give them each about eight to 10 plays,” said Sands. Redshirt freshman Kendric Salley is expected to see more action. “Physically, he can still get some things done,” noted Sands. “I have a good feeling we’re going to have good depth,” continued Sands. “Mike and Brandon are both doing a great job.” The unit will be enhanced this fall with the return of Shon Carson, who is spending the spring with the Gamecock baseball team, and highly-touted incoming freshman David Williams.

“We’ve got a good group,” said Shawn Elliott of his offensive line. “We have four returning starters and two other guys that have started at times that are going to be back. I think we’ve got a solid young group backing those guys up. We’ve been doing ok this spring and we’ve got to improve.” Elliott noted the first group would get a lot of the practice reps tomorrow before the younger players take over during the scrimmage.

Saturday’s practice will begin at 10 a.m. at Williams-Brice Stadium and is open to the public. Fans should enter through gate 4 on the west (Bluff Road) side of the stadium.
