With kick-off of the 2013 season 44 days away, South Carolina head football coach Steve Spurrier headed to Birmingham, Ala., for SEC Media Days. He was joined by Jadeveon Clowney, Bruce Ellington, and Connor Shaw to represent the Gamecocks.
Over 1,200 credentialed media members are attending this year’s event, the annual sign that SEC football is just around the corner. For approximately three hours the participants rotated through 14 rooms with different functions – photo shoots, video Q&As, TV interviews, press conferences, live radio, and more. The theme from all the Gamecocks? “We want a championship.”

Clowney was a big attraction of the day, a gaggle of photographers and reporters following his every move from room to room. He was peppered with a range of questions (a 4.46 40-yard dash, Heisman hopes, his goals for the season) but one big topic kept coming up – The Hit. Clowney explained that he was just hoping to make a big play to help the team and didn’t realize how big it was until he saw it. He joked with SEC radio, “I think the play was on YouTube before I even got to the sideline.”
