COLUMBIA, S.C. – Junior defender Christa Neary was named Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Week after scoring the game-winning goal Sunday afternoon against East Carolina.
Neary played a key role from her defensive position in leading South Carolina to a pair of shutout victories over the weekend. In a game that the Gamecocks controlled from start to finish, but struggled to find the back of the net, Neary notched the game’s only goal in the 67th minute to help the Garnet and Black move its unbeaten streak to eight games by topping East Carolina 1-0. It was the second game-winning goal of her career.
Neary and the Gamecocks will open conference play on Friday at Georgia. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET. Visit GamecocksOnline.com throughout the week for match details.
