Following a complete dismantling of Coastal Carolina on Saturday, the University of South Carolina football team has moved back into the Top-10 in the latest college football national polls released today.
The Gamecocks (9-2, 6-2 SEC) are ranked 10th by the Associated Press and ninth in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches poll, moving up two spots in both polls. It’s the first time Carolina has been ranked in the top 10 since losing to Georgia in the second week of the season and the 34th time they have been ranked in the A.P. Top-10 in school history. The Gamecocks have been ranked for a school record 61 consecutive weeks in the A.P. Top-25, tying for the fifth longest streak in the nation with Stanford, behind only Alabama, LSU, Oregon and Oklahoma.
The Gamecocks climbed to No. 10 in the BCS Standings released Sunday night.
The newest ranking also sets up a Top-10 matchup next week when Clemson (10-1, 7-1) visits Columbia for the Palmetto State Showdown. Clemson is ranked sixth in this week’s A.P. poll and fourth in the coaches’ poll. It’s the first time that both schools will be ranked in the Top-10 when facing each other in what will be the 111th meeting on the gridiron.
Alabama (11-0), Florida State (11-0) and Ohio State (11-0) hold down the top three positions in both poll. Auburn (10-1), Missouri (10-1) and Clemson (10-1) share the next three slots. Oklahoma State (10-1), Baylor (9-1), Stanford (9-2) and South Carolina round out the Top-10 in both polls.
