BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – In a continuing effort to recognize the accomplishments of student-athletes beyond the field of competition, the SEC once again highlighted a Community Service Team for men’s basketball for the 2013-14 season. South Carolina senior guard Brenton Williams has been named to this year’s squad.
Williams has visited with members of the community at the Edgewood Community Empowerment Event and volunteered at the Tunnels To Towers Charity Walk/Run in Columbia. On campus, he has visited with fans prior to a Carolina football game, acted as a guest host for USC Trivia and has participated in a Thank-A-Thon, calling season ticket holders to thank them for supporting Gamecock Athletics.
The native of Kissimmee, Fla., has done other community service efforts as well, such as visiting with an AAU youth basketball team after practice, volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, helping to paint a house, and also volunteering with Harvest Hope food drive.
Williams and the Gamecocks will face Auburn Wednesday night in the first round of the SEC Tournament. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., ET at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Ga., and air on SECTV.
