Head Coach Chad Holbrook
Opening statement
I am proud of our team. The conditions were not necessarily great out there and it was not easy to play out there tonight. Our guys hung in there pretty well. College of Charleston threw two pretty darn good pitchers at us with Thornton and Henry and they pretty much stuffed us for six or seven innings. We got two runs in the first and second but then we were pretty quiet offensively after that but we did enough. Our pitching again was pretty good. To beat a good College of Charleston group is saying something, they have some good players on their team and they will have a pretty solid year. We weren’t necessarily at full strength without of Grayson [Greiner] and Max [Schrock], but our guys showed up with a determination to win and I’m proud of them.
On how well Joey Pankake is hitting recently
I think he has gotten more comfortable and a bit more confident. He is getting good swings, he is not putting too much pressure on himself and he is not swinging at balls out of the strike zone. He has some confidence going.
Freshman Right-hander Taylor Widener
On how his perforamance
It was really cold and I didn’t feel like I had my best stuff but I had a good team behind me.
Freshman Left-hander Josh Reagan
On his mentality entering the game with a four run lead.
I was just trying to get outs like I do in any other game. This was a bit colder than normal but my approach to the game is the same no matter what game or what the score it is. I just try to throw strikes and get outs.
Junior Third Baseman Joey Pankake
On how well he has been hitting lately…
I have been seeing the ball really well. I have been in the cage with Coach Buscher and e has been helping me a lot.
