Head Coach Chad Holbrook
Opening Statement
Congratulations to Charleston Southern, they were obviously the better team of the night. They out competed, out hustled, out scrapped and out did us in just about everything tonight. I’m happy for [Charleston Southern head coach] Stuart Lake, he’s a great guy and has been a part of the program for a long time. I know this was a meaningful game and win for him, so, hats off to him. Charleston Southern’s Bobby Ison was the best player out there on the field tonight, without a doubt. The kid has struck out three times in about 160 at bats and that tells you all you need to know about the type of kid he is, he competes and I’d like to have him in our lineup. We got our tails kicked tonight, that’s the bottom line.
On struggling this weekend (against Florida) and tonight…
It’s amazing. This game can turn around in your year, the game, and the season; it can turn around just like that. Midnight on Friday night after Florida, you’re sitting there, and even on seven innings on Saturday, things are going fine and then boom! You lose your edge, something doesn’t go your way and suddenly you’re feeling sorry for yourself. You have to fight, scratch and claw, regardless of who we have in there, to turn it around. I thought for sure we would come down today. I love the way we competed on Sunday even though we lost and I thought for sure we would come today ready to compete, but we got behind and there wasn’t much fight in our dugout and this is very disappointing.
On injuries catching up to the team…
[The injuries] are no excuse. We have players capable of winning and capable of competing, regardless of which guys we have out there. We have some good players in our dugout that have to play better, regardless of who they are and if they’ve been regulars or not. That is just an excuse and I’m not going to hear any of that.

On how to get things turned around after this loss…
We got beat by a better team tonight. We didn’t play very well at all, but baseball is a fifty-six game season and we’ve got another one tomorrow. We can’t dwell on tonight. We just played really bad and they played really well.
On Charleston Southern’s pitcher Denis Buckley…
He was using both sides of the plate with both his fastball and his slider. We had a terrible approach against him. We were trying to pull everything and that’s why we only scored one run and had five hits.
