April 26, 2014
COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina senior outside hitter Juliette Thévenin signed her first professional contract on Friday to play for Volley Oxyjeunes Sodraep Farciennes in Farcienness, Belgium.
Thévenin will begin playing in Farcienness in January of 2015.
“We are really proud of Jules not only for what she accomplished as a Gamecock but for this next great chapter of her career,” South Carolina head coach Scott Swanson said. “We can’t wait to see how she plays at the professional level and we wish her all the best for a long, healthy career!”
A native of Mont-sur-Marchinne, Belgium, Thévenin leaves the Gamecock program as one of the most decorated players in school history. She was named an honorable mention AVCA All-American, first team AVCA All-Southeast Region and All-SEC as a senior after finishing the season with the second most kills (466) and second best kills per set average (4.57) in school history in the rally-scoring era.
Thévenin closed out her career ranked in the top 10 in school history in six career categories, ranking third in kills (1,590), second in kills per set (4.07), second in attacks (4,076), ninth in digs (1,012), fourth in points (1,744.5) and third in points per set (4.46). She is just the second South Carolina player of record to record more than 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in a career.
