COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina topped the 2013-14 Southeastern Conference First-Year Academic Honor Roll for the seventh-straight year, with 97 student-athletes earning the accolade this year, the conference released on Friday.

A total of 820 student-athletes were named to the first-year listing, running the year’s total to 3,270 student-athletes to gain a spot on one of the four honor rolls. South Carolina, with 336 student-athletes making one of the four releases, stands as the only member of the SEC with over 300 student-athletes making the list.

For this first-year release, Alabama came in behind the Gamecocks with 86, while Kentucky ranked third with 76 and Missouri fourth with 65. Georgia and Tennessee tied for fifth with 62.

The SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2013-14 academic calendar.

Each student-athlete must 1) have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship or a letter winner; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport’s entire NCAA Championship segment.
