CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The South Carolina women’s tennis team posted an impressive 10-2 combined singles and doubles record Friday at the USTA/ITA Carolina Regional Championships at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center in Chapel Hill, N.C.

The Gamecocks began the day by posting a perfect 5-0 record in doubles that saw four duos advance to Saturday’s quarterfinal rounds. Natalie Looney and Ximena Siles Luna had to win two matches on the day, first against a duo from Clemson and then they took a tiebreaker from a Charlotte team. Megen Cochran and Caroline Dailey had little trouble in their contest with UNC Greensboro, winning 8-3. Meghan Blevins and Brigit Folland needed a 7-4 tiebreak win to advance past Wake Forest, and Hadley Berg and Elixane Lechemia defeated a Duke tandem 8-6 in a breaker as well.

South Carolina opened singles play with four straight wins with the first coming from Blevins who was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Laina Cummer of Davidson. Cochran followed with a 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 victory against Alyssa Ritchie from UNC Wilmington and No. 56 Lechemia beat Gardner-Webb’s Roka Sacko 6-1, 6-1 in her first match of the fall. No. 114 Folland downed Monica Aguado of Winthrop 6-2, 6-2 to advance to the round of 32.

Ann Catherine Feaster of Davidson handed the Gamecocks their first loss of the day with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 triumph over Siles Luna. Rachel Kahan from Duke also needed three sets in defeating Berg 6-3, 0-6, 6-2. Dailey concluded play for South Carolina with a 6-2, 6-2 win against Keisha Clousing from Clemson.

Play continues at 8:30 a.m. Saturday with quarterfinal doubles matches followed by round of 32 singles play.
