COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina women’s tennis team heads to the Michigan Invitational to begin spring play starting Saturday and ending Monday at the Varsity Tennis Center in Ann Arbor, Mich. Joining the No. 23 Gamecocks at the event in addition to host No. 16 Michigan are No. 31 Texas Tech and No. 39 USF. There will be no team scoring at the event, with each player competing as an individual.

Seven members of the Gamecocks’ squad are set to compete including Hadley Berg, Caroline Dailey, Brigit Folland, Natalie Looney, Alex Martin, Alison Mills and Ximena Siles Luna.

FORMAT OF PLAY

Each team will play three rounds of doubles and three rounds of singles. There will be up to eight flights in singles and four flights in doubles. Each team will play a round of singles and a round of doubles each day. Points will be allotted for each win based on the following decreasing point value to determine the champion (singles and doubles) at the end of the weekend. The teams will not be competing in dual-match scoring. This weekend’s event will feature no-ad scoring in both singles and doubles. Singles matches will still be played as best two-out-of-three sets, with doubles matches consisting of one set to six. Tiebreakers in both singles and doubles will be played at 6-6.

Win at No. 2 position — 7 points
Win at No. 3 position — 6 points
Win at No. 4 position — 5 points
Win at No. 5 position — 4 points
Win at No. 6 position — 3 points
Win at No. 7 position — 2 points
Win at No. 8 position — 1 point
