CLEMSON, S.C./BLACKSBURG, Va. – Multi-event athletes saw their first action of the season Friday in Clemson and the men’s hurdlers performed well in Blacksburg as the Carolina track team began its weekends at the Bob Pollock Invitational and Hokie Invite, respectively. LeAnna Morrison moved off the triple jump runway to claim the 60m hurdles for the team’s lone win.

Competing in Clemson, Morrison won both her preliminary heat and final in the 60mH, running an 8.67 time to take home her third win in as many weekends but the first win in that event.

In the women’s pentathlon, Chalese Davis and Sarah Graham squared off with a talented field in the pentathlon. Davis would win the 60m hurdles and the long jump, and Graham won the high jump in the individual events. In the final tally, Davis took second with a score of 3,855 and Graham would come in third with 3,732 points.

Markus Leemet was Carolina’s lone representative in the men’s heptathlon, and sits in second place through the first four events. The competition will resume tomorrow with the 60m hurdles, pole vault and 1000m. He won the 60m and the long jump to take the early lead, but sits 30 points behind after finishing second in the shot put and high jump.

Wrapping up the first day at Clemson, Richard Fish (4.61m) and Megan Wall (3.74m) eached finished second in the pole vault competition.

Out at the Hokie Invite, Clarence Gallop set a new season best in the weight throw, improving on his mark from last weekend by almost three feet (19.68m) He would finish fifth in the event, followed by Josh Awotunde in ninth.

In the men’s hurdles, Jussi Kanervo and Isaiah Moore wrapped up second and third in the 60m, respectively. Moore would win his preliminary heat, but Kanervo came back to best his teammate by just one one-hundreth of a second to take second.

For the 60m dash, Kendall Kee set a new top time for the team in the prelims, finishing in 6.73. It would be Ncincilili Titi who would take the team’s top finish in the finals, though, finishing second with a time of 6.81.
