COLUMBIA, S.C. — The No. 22 South Carolina women’s tennis team defeated College of Charleston 5-0 in the second part of a doubleheader Saturday at the USC Field House in Columbia, S.C., to improve to 6-2 on the season. The Cougars remain winless with a 0-5 record. Earlier in the day, South Carolina defeated Charlotte 4-0.

The Gamecocks took the doubles point with ease from the Cougars with Meghan Blevins and Brigit Folland winning first 6-2 against Jenny Falcone and Katherine Schofield on court one. No. 46 Hadley Berg and Elixane Lechemia secured the point with a 6-3 triumph over Samantha Maddox and Brooke McAmis at the No. 2 spot. CofC’s Grace Baker and Sarah Jane Jones led Caroline Dailey and Ximena Siles Luna 5-3 when play stopped with the doubles point decided.

Blevins and Folland’s win added to the duo’s already impressive resume, as they improved to 18-3 this season with the win and 6-1 in dual matches. For Folland, it ran her individual doubles record to 23-4, tops on the squad. Blevins is 20-5 in doubles play this season.

Lechemia ran the score to 2-0 after she made short work of Maddox 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 1 singles spot. She improved to 6-3 this season and 3-2 at the top position with the win.

Blevins wrapped up her match soon afterward by a 6-2, 6-2 count over Schofield at No. 3 singles. It marked Blevins’ third straight victory and upped her mark to a team-leading 17-4 overall. She also moved to 5-2 in dual match play.

Folland gave Carolina the clinching point with her 6-0, 6-3 win over Falcone on court three to improve to 15-10 on the season. Dailey added the fifth point for the Gamecocks with a 6-3, 4-6, (10-6) win against Mara Argyriou at the No. 2 slot.

The teams agreed to play one set at Nos. 5 and 6 singles to close out the afternoon. Berg won her set 6-2 versus Baker at No. 5, while Natalie Looney came back from a 4-1 deficit to Jones at six to win 6-4.

South Carolina will play its final doubleheader and non-conference matches of the season next weekend when it takes on Furman on Feb. 21 in Greenville, S.C., at 10 a.m. followed by a 4:30 p.m. match with North Florida in the Upstate. The Gamecocks open SEC play at home Feb. 27 hosting Auburn at 5 p.m. and then Alabama on March 1 at noon.
