COLUMBIA, S.C. –
The South Carolina women’s golf team enters the postseason at the No. 2 spot in the Golfstat Relative Rankings and are No. 5 in this week’s Golfweek/Sagarin Rating.
South Carolina has finished in the top five in 15 straight regular season stroke play events, a streak that dates back to October 2013. Last weekend, the Gamecocks tied for fourth at the PING/ASU Invitational in Tempe, Ariz. The event featured the top five teams in the nation and 15 of the nation’s top 25 individuals. After eight regular-season events, the South Carolina lineup holds the program’s best-ever team season scoring average by nearly a stroke at 291.18.
Playing another rigorous schedule, the sixth toughest in the nation according to Golfstat, the Gamecocks have produced a 42-12-2 record against the top 25. Only South Carolina and top-ranked Southern California have a winning record of 70 percent or better when facing teams in the top 25. The Gamecocks hold a winning percentage of 76.7 percent while the Trojans are at 70.3 percent.
The Gamecocks travel to Birmingham, Ala., for the 2015 SEC Championships this weekend. Play starts on Friday morning at the Greystone Golf and Country Club.
