COLUMBIA, S.C. — University of South Carolina Athletics will hold a ceremony to unveil the statue of Heisman Trophy winner George Rogers on the northwest corner of Springs-Brooks Plaza on Sat., Sept. 12, at 4 p.m. Fans are invited to help celebrate Rogers’ accomplishments and the addition of this recognition of them as a permanent fixture on the plaza.

A short program will include comments from South Carolina Athletics Director Ray Tanner; University President Dr. Harris Pastides; former South Carolina administrator Harold White; Rogers’ former teammate and current Board of Trustees member Chuck Allen, former South Carolina cheerleader Patti Shelley, whose gift helped make the statue possible, and Rogers.

Members of the 1980 team will also be on hand to help Rogers, who chose the photo on which the statue was based because it depicted him celebrating his teammates’ accomplishments as much as his own, commemorate the unveiling, which will take place rain or shine.
