LEXINGTON, Ky. – In a battle between two unbeaten teams in Conference USA play, No. 15 Kentucky (8-3-1, 4-0 C-USA) came out on top 1-0 over No. 17 South Carolina (7-5-1, 4-1 C-USA) on Sunday afternoon at the Bell Soccer Complex.

The Wildcats’ Jordan Wilson headed home the match’s only score in the 31st minute, putting in the free kick from Kristoffer Tollefsen.

South Carolina had four shots on goal, the best chance coming in the early part of the contest. Senior Kevin Walker shot from the corner of the six, but Kentucky goalkeeper Callum Irving saved it from his back.

In the second half, South Carolina had more looks at goal, with senior Jeffrey Torda getting a chance in the 55th. His diving header forced Irving to leap to his left to save it.

The Gamecocks had more corner kicks than the 15th-ranked Wildcats, 5-2.

Game Changer:
The foul just outside of the 18-yard box in the 31st minute set up Kentucky’s score.

Notables:
• Three Gamecocks tallied two shots each: senior Asa Kryst, junior Danny Deakin and freshman Torgeir Nyboe.
• South Carolina’s defense limited Kentucky to two shots on goal, while the Gamecocks’ field players blocked five Wildcat shots.
• Noah Hutchins had three of Kentucky’s 11 shots.

The Gamecocks close the road swing with a Friday night contest at Charlotte. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Transamerica Field.
