COLUMBIA, S.C. – Gamecock junior midfielder Danny Deakin added to his award resume, gaining the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week honor as well as claiming a spot on the College Soccer News Team of the Week for the second time this season.

Deakin knocked home a pair of penalty kicks in wins over FIU and No. 13 Old Dominion on the week. His PK versus the Panthers served as the game-winner, while his score against the Monarchs iced the match with two minutes to play. The Gamecocks’ leading scorer is tied for the top spot in goals in Conference USA, and he’s the first South Carolina player to notch double-digit goals since Sam Arthur in 2008.

Deakin is the first Gamecock to twice make the College Soccer News Team of the Week, having been honored also on Sept. 28. He’s the first Gamecock to tally the offensive award from C-USA since Mike Mangotic on Nov. 7, 2011.

South Carolina closes its regular season at home on Saturday against Coastal Carolina at 7 p.m. The Gamecocks will honor eight seniors prior to kickoff.
