CHARLESTON, S.C. — Sophomore Hadley Berg and freshman Paige Cline of No. 10 South Carolina women’s tennis took the stage at the WTA’s Volvo Car Open on Tuesday, falling to professional tandem Vania King (USA) and Alla Kudryavtseva (RUS), 6-3, 6-0, inside the prestigious Volvo Car Stadium in Charleston, S.C.

One of two wild card entries into the 16-team doubles draw, the Gamecock duo claimed the opening game of the first set to take a 1-0 lead before King and Kudryavtseva realed off four straight games. Berg and Cline showed the resolve that has made them a top-25 collegiate tandem this season, battling back to within 4-3 in the first set, before ultimately dropping the set and the match.

The California natives will return to Columbia, S.C., to rejoin their team and begin preparations for a pair of SEC roadtrips to close out the regular season. The Gamecocks enter the weekend tied for third in the SEC Standings at 7-2.
