BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — University of South Carolina Men’s Golf sophomore Keenan Huskey was named Southeastern Conference Golfer of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday. The weekly award is the first of Huskey’s Gamecock career.

Huskey won the award after dominating the individual portion of the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate. The Greenville, S.C., native shot a three-day score of 205 (-11) to win medalist honors by a whopping six strokes.

Led by Huskey, South Carolina cruised to the team title at the Hootie with a tournament-record score of 841 (-23). The Gamecocks finished 15 strokes ahead of their nearest competitor to collect their fourth tournament victory of the season.

This is the third time this season a Gamecock has been honored as SEC Men’s Golfer of the Week. Senior Matt NeSmith was selected for the award on March 9 and March 16.

Huskey is now a two-time individual medalist this season after winning the Camden Collegiate Invitational in October. The sophomore is one of just eight Gamecocks in program history to win two tournaments in a single season.

UP NEXT FOR THE GAMECOCKS

Huskey and the Gamecocks will compete at the 2016 SEC Championship, to be held April 15-17 at Sea Island Golf Club in St. Simons Island, Ga. South Carolina is looking for the first SEC title in program history after finishing as runner-up last season.
