Educators around the country have been honored the last several days during Teacher Appreciation Week, and South Carolina Athletics will be honoring teachers this fall by having Teacher Appreciation Day at the Gamecocks’ football game against Massachusetts on Saturday, October 22. This is the second year in a row that South Carolina is offering the deal to teachers.

“The idea is to honor teachers for what they do, and allow them to share it with their family and friends who might be interested in joining them for the game,” said Dan Stahl, General Manager of IMG Learfield Ticket Solutions for South Carolina Athletics. “We did it for the Vanderbilt game last year, and we received some really good feedback. Basically what we are trying to do is promote a discounted ticket package to our teachers in South Carolina.”

“We appreciate the University of South Carolina Athletics Department for sponsoring the Teacher Appreciation Day,” said Dr. Billy Strickland, Superintendent of Laurens County School District 55. “Our staff enjoyed taking part in this day last year and look forward to the upcoming day this year and for many years to come. Thanks to the Athletics Department for remembering our dedicated teachers and staff.”

Teachers can purchase tickets for only $25 apiece, which is a $10 savings per ticket. They can also take advantage of some other benefits that day as the event is purposely scheduled around one of the home dates for which the South Carolina State Fair is operating on the grounds next to Williams-Brice Stadium.

“Whenever anybody buys a ticket to the game that is centered around the State Fair, they also get free admission to the Fair that day either before or after the game,” Stahl said. “In addition, they have access to $5 parking at the Fair, which is not usually the case for our fans who are buying an individual game ticket. We work with a lot of the principals and superintendents in the South Carolina school districts to promote this to their teachers and staff.”

In its first year, we sold over 750 tickets … we’re trying to see if we can double that this year.

After a successful venture last year, Stahl hopes that some extra time promoting the game will allow teachers to take advantage of the discount and enjoy a day of Gamecocks football.

“In its first year, we sold over 750 tickets, which is really good for a year-one promotion,” Stahl said. “So we’re trying to see if we can double that this year.”
