Athletics Staff Teams Up for Week of Giving
May 6, 2016
South Carolina Athletics Staff members immersed themselves in the community this past week as part of “We Care Week.” The event is a week-long effort in which coaches, administrators and staff members at every level within the athletics department rolled up their sleeves to pitch in and volunteer at various organizations in the community.
More than 70 members of the athletics staff took part. They spent time with the elderly at HarborChase of Columbia, helped out at PETSinc. animal shelter, and cleaned and organized the Hannah House, which is a transitional shelter for women. Staff members also spent time assisting at Transitions homeless shelter and The Women’s Shelter, which serves homeless women, while others gathered food at Harvest Hope Food Bank, and helped with facility upkeep at Pawmetto Lifeline, an animal rescue organization.
This was the second consecutive year that the South Carolina Athletics Department planned the week of service around the same time as Midlands Gives, which is a 24-hour online giving event that brings the region together as one community, raising money and awareness for local nonprofits in 11 counties within the Midlands of South Carolina.
