COLUMBIA, S.C. – The SEC Community Service Team was announced for track and field, representing South Carolina this season was Maya Evans and Kaleb Zuidema. The team recognizes a male and female athlete from each of the conference’s 21 sponsored sports who have been leaders for their teams in community outreach.

This is the first time that Zuidema has earned a spot on the team. The redshirt junior was a captain of the team and also served on South Carolina’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. In his time as a student-athlete, Kaleb has recorded 47 hours of community service, including work with the Special Olympics and the Run, Jump and Throw program. In the classroom, he has made the conference’s academic honor roll four times.

Maya Evans is no stranger to the Community Service Team, she has represented the South Carolina women three years straight. She led all South Carolina student-athletes with 313 service hours in 2015, and in 2016 she went over 110 hours. She serves as a resident mentor, SAAC representative, community service ambassadors and works with the school’s Office of Multicultural Student Affairs.
