Knott Named to Rimington Trophy Fall Watch List

July 6, 2016

COLUMBIA, S.C. ââ’¬” University of South Carolina center Alan Knott has been named to the Rimington Trophy Fall Watch List, the organization announced today. The list includes the top centers in Division I football, and Knott is one of eight SEC entries on the 62-player list.

A 6-foot-4 junior, Knott figures to be a fixture in the middle of the line this season and ranks third among South Carolina’s returning players and first among offensive players with 17 career starts, including nine in 2015. As a sophomore, he was recognized by the coaching staff as the Most Improved Offensive Lineman and also captured Joe Morrison Offensive Player of the Spring accolades, presented at the 2015 Garnet & Black Spring Game.

As the season progresses, the Rimington Trophy committee will continue to watch all players on the list and will announce its finalists on Dec. 5, 2016. The committee uses three All-America teams ââ’¬” Walter Camp Foundation, Sporting News and Football Writers Association of America ââ’¬” ot determine its winner, who will be recognized at the Rimington Trophy Presentation at the Rococo Theatre in Lincoln, Neb., on Sat., Jan. 14, 2017.

South Carolina opens head coach Will Muschamp’s first season leading the Garnet and Black on Thu., Sept. 1, at Vanderbilt. The Gamecocks play their first home game on Sat., Sept. 17, against East Carolina.
