Men's Hoops Visits Epworth Children's Home On Friday During 8K In 8 Days Campaign

July 8, 2016

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Members of the South Carolina men’s basketball team visited Epworth Children’s Home in Columbia on Friday morning for a community outreach project for the “8K In 8 Days” campaign. The campaign, which continues through July 13, aims to reach 8,000 fans in the greater Columbia community and the State of South Carolina with community outreach over the course of eight days.

BINGO!! Team members spent time with the kids on campus at Epworth Children’s Home playing games such as Bingo, during the 90-minute session. Following a fantastic time with games, the children were able to spend time with the South Carolina student-athletes for a question and answer session, before concluding the event with an autograph session.

“Days like today with the kids give me life because despite their unforeseen and unfortunate situations they still live as if they’re beyond blessed, and that just allows me to not take anything for granted,” senior guard Duane Notice said of Friday’s event. “I loved playing Bingo with the kids and answering all of their questions today. Their enthusiasm excited me that our team could bring joy to them.”

Sherri Mims, executive assistant and communication specialist at Epworth Children’s Home echoed Notice’s thoughts.

“Our children have so much fun interacting with the basketball players,” Mims commented. “It’s a wonderful opportunity for our residents to see that people, especially student-athletes, care about them and are taking the time to play games and just have fun. They look up to the basketball players, so it’s always exciting to see the children interacting with them. We always look forward to these events and appreciate the team giving back to the community.”
