COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina has laid out another daunting schedule for its 2016 cross country schedule, including trips to Notre Dame and Alabama, all to prepare for the championship segment.

Opening the 2016 season, the Gamecocks will host the Carolina Challenge on the Sandhill Research and Education Center course on the morning of Sat., Sept. 3. Two weeks later, South Carolina takes the short trip north on I-77 to run in the Winthrop/adidas Invitational on Sept. 17. The Gamecock Invitational opens the October schedule with a night race on Tues., Oct. 4, also at Sandhill REC. From there, the Gamecocks run their final regular-season event in the Crimson Classic hosted by Alabama on Fri., Oct. 14. That will be the final preparation for South Carolina’s postseason docket.

The postseason begins on Fri., Oct. 28 with the Southeastern Conference Championship. Set for Fayetteville, Ark., all 14 SEC programs will come together to see who is the best in the league, with defending champion Arkansas getting the home-course advantage.

Next up, the Gamecocks head north to the grounds of the University of Virginia for the NCAA Southeast Regional. Held on Fri., Nov. 11, last year’s field boasted of 33 teams and 235 individuals, all looking to qualify for the NCAA Championship on Nov. 19 in Terre Haute, Ind.
