Former Gamecock Bryan Earns Promotion to PGA Tour

Aug. 7, 2016

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Former South Carolina men’s golfer Wesley Bryan won a three-way playoff at the Digital Ally Open Sunday at the Nicklaus Golf Club at LionsGate in Overland Park, Kan., to earn his third win of the Web.com Tour season and an automatic promotion to the PGA Tour for the remainder of the 2016 season and all of 2017.

Bryan, who took home titles at the Chitimacha Louisiana Open and the El Bosque Mexico Championship this spring, entered Sunday’s final round with a one-shot lead at 16-under-par (197). His final round score of 67 (-4) placed him in a three-way tie atop the leaderboard with Americans Grayson Murray and J.T. Poston. Following a trio of birdies on the first hole of the playoff, Bryan nearly aced his tee shot on the par-three 17th before tapping in the winner to become the 11th player in Web.com Tour history to earn a three-win promotion to the PGA Tour.

A native of Chapin, S.C., Bryan was the 2012 Team MVP, a 2010 PING All-Southeast Region selection and four-time SEC Academic Honor Roll selection. His 12 career top-10 finishes are tied for the ninth most in Gamecock history and placed him on the 2010 All-SEC Second Team as a sophomore after earning a nod on the 2009 All-SEC Freshman Team.

In his first season on the Web.com Tour, Bryan is No. 1 on the money list, leading all golfers in putting average (1.629), birdie average (4.70) and is second in scoring average (68.98). He is the first Gamecock with a PGA Tour card since Kyle Thompson in 2012.
