The Gamecocks defeated Dartmouth (2-2) 6-1 and Quinnipiac (3-1) 7-0 to improve to 4-0 on the season. They will continue their road campaign with a trip to Atlanta, Ga. to face Georgia State on Sunday, Feb. 5.

Dartmouth struggled against the Gamecocks, with South Carolina sweeping the doubles’ point. Yancy Dennis and Harrison O’Keefe quickly dismissed their opponents in the No. 2 doubles in a 6-2 victory, with Paul Jubb and Gabriel Friedrich having the same result at the No. 3 spot. O’Keefe, Alex Fennell and Andrew Schafer increased the Gamecock lead to 4-0 with two-set victories in No. 1, No. 5 and No. 6 singles. Friedrich and Dennis had a tougher time, taking their matches into the third set, but both earning victories to make a 6-1 final.

The Quinnipiac match had a similar outcome but with far more dominance in the singles matches. Carolina swept the three doubles matches at 6-2 a piece. The Gamecocks won all six singles matches in two sets. Friedrich blanked Kei Ezaka at the No. 1 spot and freshman Paul Jubb triumphed 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 4 spot, resulting in a 7-0 final.

Quotable

Head Coach Josh Goffi: “At this point in the season, we are focusing on what we can control and bring to every match. We did a great job of that today and I think that’s why we were able to get through the matches the way we did.”
