COLUMBIA, S.C. – Fresh off a 4-0 weekend at the UNF Beach Invitational, South Carolina beach volleyball pair Katie Smith and Katie Zimmerman were named the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) Beach Volleyball Pair of the Week Tuesday afternoon. The recognition is the first weekly honor in program history for the Gamecocks, who are entering year two in the CCSA.

Smith and Zimmerman ran the table down in St. Augustine, winning all four of their matches in the top pairing in straight sets. The highlight of the weekend was the duo’s win over No. 11 FIU on Saturday morning, which helped the Gamecocks overcome a 2-0 deficit to upset the Panthers, 3-2. Over the four total wins, which also included matches against Spring Hill, College of Charleston and North Florida, Smith and Zimmerman won by an average of nine points per set.

The Gamecocks will return home to host a tournament of their own next week. South Carolina welcomes in Mercer, No. 11 Grand Canyon, UAB and Jacksonville for a two-day event at Wheeler Beach. The Gamecocks open the weekend on Saturday, March 11 at 1 p.m. against Mercer.
