No. 24 South Carolina Faces No. 1 Florida

COLUMBIA, S.C. — No. 24 South Carolina women’s tennis travels to Gainesville, Fla. to face No. 1 Florida Saturday, March 11 at 1 p.m. at Linder Stadium at the Ring Tennis Complex. The Gamecocks are 9-3 overall and 1-1 in SEC play this season, coming off split results on the weekend with a 4-2 win over No. 20 Texas A&M and a 4-2 loss to No. 37 LSU.


Head Coach Kevin Epley: “It’s going to be a tough match. Florida has a terrific squad ââ’¬” maybe the best in the nation. We are fresh off a solid week of practice so we are ready to see how we stack up on the road. “


  • The Gamecocks boast two ranked in singles play; Ingrid Gamarra Martins (35) and Mia Horvit (58), up 42 spots from her previous ranking of 100.
  • The doubles pairing of Paige Cline and Hadley Berg is ranked No. 27 nationally.
  • Berg is undefeated in singles play this season, adding a 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory over Texas A&M’s Tina Bokhua to increase her win-streak to 10-0.
  • Freshman Silvia Chinellato went undefeated on the first weekend of SEC play, adding two wins in the No. 4 spot.
  • Kevin Epley is in his fifth season with the Gamecocks.

Scouting No. 1 FLORIDA

  • The Gators are undefeated this season, improving to 11-0 overall and 2-0 in league play after defeating No. 37 LSU, 7-0, and No. 20 Texas A&M, 4-0, last weekend.
  • Florida defeated then No. 2 North Carolina, 4-2, to win the National Team Indoor Championships this season.
  • Ranked singles: Josie Kuhlman (12), Ingrid Neel (14), Belinda Woolcock (19), Anna Danilina (22), Kourtney Keegan (32), Spencer Liang (56) and Brooke Austin (125).
  • Ranked doubles: Ingrid Neel and Anna Danilina (11), Brooke Austin and Kourtney Keegan (15), Josie Kuhlman and Belinda Woolcock (36), and Anna Danilina and Spencer Liang (55).
  • Roland Thornqvist is in his 16th year as the head coach at UF.

After facing Florida this weekend, the Gamecocks will return home for three matches. The first against No. 16 Tennessee Friday, March 17 and the following two a doubleheader Friday, March 19 against No. 13 Georgia and Coastal Carolina. Admission and parking to all home tennis matches are free of charge.
