SEC Track Athlete of the Week: Ncincilili Titi

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — University of South Carolina junior Ncincilili Titi has been named SEC Track Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday. It’s the first SEC weekly honor that the Butterworth, South Africa, native has attained in his career.

The award comes as no surprise after Titi’s historic performance April 15 at the Gamecock Invitational. The three-time All-American won the 200m with a time of 20.14 (+1.7), which is a new Carolina record and the fastest time posted in the NCAA this season.

The performance had global ramifications for Titi, whose time of 20.14 is the third-best on the planet this season.

Titi is the sixth Gamecock of the season to be honored with a weekly SEC award, and Carolina has been on quite a roll as of late with conference accolades in four straight weeks. Rougui Sow was named Women’s Field Athlete of the Week April 11 after attaining the world’s top long jump mark of the season, and Josh Awotunde earned Men’s Field Athlete of the Week on March 28. The team’s string of four straight weeks with an SEC award began March 21, when Darrell Singleton Jr. was named Men’s Freshman of the Week.

UP NEXT FOR THE GAMECOCKS

South Carolina hosts the USC Open on Saturday at Cregger Track, with the action beginning at 9 a.m. ET.
