Blackmon Named Golf Pride Grips WGCA Assistant Coach of the Year

June 1, 2017

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Puggy Blackmon was named 2016-17 Golf Pride Grips WGCA Assistant Coach of the Year, the organization announced today, after helping the Gamecocks capture their third-straight NCAA Regional title.

“WGCA Assistant Coach of the Year is a well deserved honor for Puggy,” South Carolina head coach Kalen Anderson said. “His passion for the game of golf and helping young people is evident in what he gives to our program every day. Puggy is integral to our success, and his contributions are very appreciated.”

Blackmon and head coach Kalen Anderson guided the Gamecocks to a top-15 national ranking, the NCAA Columbus Regional championship and four regular-season top-five finishes. The team set a school record in season scoring average by nearly a stroke, and six of the eight team members either tied or set new career 18-hole low scores on the season.

Blackmon has been a part of the women’s golf program for the past eight seasons, and has helped the team to the NCAA Championships in each of those campaigns. Throughout his tenure the team has won five NCAA Regional titles, and six golfers have earned All-America honors.
