Vincent Advances to 3-Meter Finals at World Championships

BUDAPEST, Hungary – Senior Gamecock Julia Vincent qualified for the 3-meter springboard finals Thursday at the 2017 FINA World Diving Championships. Earlier on Thursday, Vincent made history by becoming the first South African in history to qualify for the World Championships semifinals.
Vincent finished in the top-18 in the preliminary round with a score of 270.20 to move onto the semifinals, where she bested her preliminary score by 19.45. Her total of 289.65 in the semifinals put her in 12th place, pushing her into the last qualifying spot into Thursday’s finals.
The Gauteng, South Africa, native’s preliminary round was highlighted by a reverse 2-1⁄2 somersault pike, earning her a 61.50 on her final attempt to seal her 17th-place finish and send her to the semifinals. The same dive also earned her highest score in the semifinals with a 66.00 to move her from 14th to 12th on her last attempt and secure her spot in the finals.
Vincent will compete Thurs., July 21 in the World Championships 3-meter springboard finals starting at 12:30 p.m. (ET) in Budapest, Hungary.
